About Me

Out in the mountains in Cayey, Puerto Rico, a young girl lived with a dream to become a journalist. This girl has faced several difficulties throughout her life, but her motivation and work ethic remained untouched. Even after moving to a foreign country with a language and culture barrier, this girl was not discouraged and overcame these challenges. She put her education first, and her many other extracurricular activities after. Even though she was continuously busy, she was able to not only graduate top ten of her class, but also graduate with her Associate’s degree before even graduating from high school.  This young girl has now grown up, but her passion and dream still lives. That girl is me.

My name is Alexandra Torres-Perez, and I am currently pursuing a degree in communication with a focus in journalism at the University of North Florida. My goal is to make an impact on people through my character and work as a journalist whether it is through broadcast or print.

“I still believe that if your aim is to change the world, journalism is a more immediate short-term weapon.”

-Tom Stoppard
